Half-win, half-loss, and the split stake behind them
A quarter line is two half-stakes on the two lines beside it. When those two halves disagree — one wins while the other pushes — you get half a win or half a loss, and the arithmetic is exact.
01How the split is built
There is no mystery inside a quarter line. Divide the stake in two and place each half on the two adjacent lines:
- −0.25 = half on 0, half on −0.5
- −0.75 = half on −0.5, half on −1
- −1.25 = half on −1, half on −1.5
- +0.25 = half on 0, half on +0.5
- +1.75 = half on +1.5, half on +2
Each half then settles on its own line, independently. Two of the combinations are the familiar ones: both halves win is a full win, both halves lose is a full loss. The other combination is the interesting one, and it can only happen one way. A half line never pushes, so the two halves can only disagree when the whole line half is pushed — and a whole line pushes only when the margin is exactly the line. That single scoreline is what produces the half-win and the half-loss:
- Whole half pushes, half line wins → half-win, e.g. −0.75 when the selection wins by exactly one.
- Whole half pushes, half line loses → half-loss, e.g. −0.25 when the match is drawn.
Nothing else can split. Winning by two on −0.75 wins both halves; a defeat loses both. The partial verdicts are therefore never a cushion applied to an ordinary losing bet — they are tied to one precise scoreline each.
So a quarter line has four outcomes, not two, and the fourth one only appears on a precise scoreline: winning by exactly one on −0.75, drawing on −0.25, winning by exactly two on −1.75, and their mirror images on the receiving side.
02The payout arithmetic, at a 100.00 stake
Every example below uses a 100.00 total stake at decimal odds of 1.95 on both halves of the split. The two halves are 50.00 each.

Half-win, written out
50.00 × 1.95 = 97.50 profit on the winning half, plus the 50.00 that came back from the pushed half. Total returned 147.50, on a 100.00 stake: a profit of 47.50, or about half of the 95.00 a full win would have paid.
Half-loss, written out
The half on the losing line goes, the half on the pushed line comes back. Total returned 50.00: a loss of 50.00, exactly half of the full 100.00 loss. The stake is not doubled, shrunk, or otherwise re-engineered — it is simply divided.
The split stake also means a quarter-line bet does not have a single payout multiple. Quoting "the odds" for a quarter line without saying which of the four outcomes occurred is incomplete; the effective return depends on the verdict, and only the two pure verdicts behave like an ordinary bet.
03Which split produces which partial result

Read the direction column together with the line. Handing over less than a whole goal caps the downside on a draw; handing over just under a whole goal caps the upside on a one-goal win. A quarter line is always a compromise between the two lines it sits between — which is exactly why its price sits between their prices too.
