Asian totals: the same split, aimed at the scoreline
An Asian total is a handicap on the number of goals scored by both sides together. The increments, the splits and the pushes work the same way — only the thing being measured changes.
01How an Asian total is built
The selection is over or under a number of goals, and the number comes in the same increments: 2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3 and so on. There is no margin and no favourite; the market is about how many goals in total, regardless of who scores them.
- Whole totals (2, 3) push when the match lands exactly on the number.
- Half totals (2.5) can never push: two goals is a loss for over 2.5 and a win for under 2.5, with no middle ground.
- Quarter totals (2.25, 2.75) split the stake across the whole and half total beside them, producing half-wins and half-losses on exact goal counts.
Which competitions publish which increments, and whether extra time counts towards the total, is set by each operator's rules for that market.

A stake of 150.00 on over 2.25 at decimal odds of 1.90 splits into 75.00 on over 2 and 75.00 on over 2.5.

Two goals is the interesting line: the bet loses, but only half of it, because the whole half of the split was returned. In a low-scoring league, that single outcome is common enough that over 2.25 and over 2.5 are genuinely different products, not the same bet at two prices.
03How a total differs from a margin handicap
What is measured
A handicap adjusts one side's score; a total adds both sides together. A 1–1 draw is a two-goal match and a level margin at the same time, which is why the two markets can look similar on a results table while pricing different things.
What it responds to
A handicap responds to the balance between two teams. A total responds to how open the match is expected to be. A heavy favourite can coexist with a low total, and a close match with a high one.
Read this twice
Do not read a total as a prediction about the winner, or a handicap as a prediction about scoring. They are separate markets with separate lines, and a bet on one says nothing about the other.
